THE CETRIFUGE

Tucked away in a suburb of Philadelphia are the remnants of a military training base where Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and the first set of Space Shuttle Astronauts trained for their missions and scientists conducted research. The circular building surrounding the equipment was built between 1947 and 1950. Inquirer reporter Diane Mastrull, Larry Kesterson, Staff Photographer, and myself visited the new developer at the site for an update, a business story spinning with visual potential. I did some photo research and NASA set me video and some stills from the historic moments. We rolled the video online and I was delighted to see a Mercury astronaut doing the crossword puzzle in our newspaper to pass the time. Anyway, we all had a good time working hard, and I think that is important in the adventure.
